Owner Spotlight: Debra Beasley
I’m Debra Beasley, proud owner of my own small business, Debra Beasley, CPA.
I look forward to sharing my story and I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
After retiring prematurely from HP, I started my “retirement career” as a financial advisor and tried to help people with investments and insurance solutions. When that didn’t work out, I re-activated my CPA and started preparing tax returns in the midst of the longest recession since the great depression. After being a financial advisor and becoming so passionate about insurance, I decided to keep my insurance license and I started selling Medicare products soon after that. Now, 10 years later, I have successfully integrated two businesses that complement each other: a tax business and an insurance business.
I enjoy helping people save money by showing them ways to turn big tax bills into smaller ones. Sometimes I tap into my insurance knowledge and help people turn tax bills into refunds with health insurance or retirement planning solutions.
When I first started out preparing tax returns, I worked with anyone who wanted to work with me. Now, I am more structured, and prefer working with seasoned business professionals, who need more comprehensive tax and accounting services. As a certified Quickbooks Pro Advisor, I recommend and support Quickbooks Online. This enables clients to keep better records, produce financial reports, monitor results and ultimately pay less taxes.
I believe what sets me apart from others is that I always recommend the solutions that work best for my clients. Whether people are employed by someone else or working for themselves, I believe in “paying yourself first”. Both individuals and business owners get caught up in raising families or working in their businesses, and they frequently forget to put away something for their future. I have always paid myself first and continue to do so. I wish that everyone would set aside the first dollar of what they earn for themselves and their future benefit or retirement.
Some of the most satisfying moments have been successfully representing clients in IRS audits, receiving large tax penalty abatements, and helping people get huge refunds through successful tax planning and strategies. I love helping people save money on their taxes.
My story would not be complete without mentioning my long time assistant, Carolee, who has put her own personal goals on hold for the last five years so she could help me with my business. Our shared commitment to customer service, process improvement and continuous learning has served us well. And, I believe it is the primary reason for our success. We focus on the needs of our clients and constantly strive to make their needs a priority. We are grateful for the trust they have placed in us and we send hand written thank you notes to tell them so. Our clients also get birthday cards from us each year.
When I am not at work, I consider myself an avid hiker, even though I stay buried in my office for months at a time each year. I moved to Colorado for the winter sports and would love to spend more time outside. I have also become a successful gardener since moving to CO. It is very rewarding to plant, grow and harvest your own organic vegetables.
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
